Hey Guys,
Haven't been around for ages but have been extremely busy with teaching workshops, traveling and exhibitions. But now i have taken 6 months break to work on some of my own stuff and chill out before it gets hectic again.
So this is a new Assemblage i have been working on over the last few weeks. It is what i call a box assemblage for obvious reasons. This one has an LED light which sits behind the Angel and when you switch it on it glows a really nice 'full moon glow'.
It is called Dark Angel and has been constructed using lots of found junk which i have laying around.
So this is a closer look at the assemblage. All the roses are handmade using tea light candles. I just basically roll up the metal into a petal lol...and then spray paint it. The leaves come from a craft store and are what is called 'metal art'. I've used an old rosary bead i had laying around in my junk trunk and used some rusty barbed wire which i stored outside in the weather in a huge roll.
I've replaced the glass in the frame with plexiglass because it is pretty hard to break plexiglass if shipment is required. The redish 'sunset' glow on the edge of the glass is a combination of spray paint and turpentine which causes the splitting effect. The metal number plate 475 is from a tag insert used to identify sheep...i think it was embedded into their collars or something to that nature, but i have a whole stack of them.
The fake grass came from a gardening store and the actual angel and wings came from stuff i found after christmas. I always love shopping after xmas for angels and wings cause they are usually discounted to clear the stock and look fantastic in assemblages. They are light which is brilliant.
On the back there is a compartment built in so that you can replace the 3 little batteries when they die.
Overall this was a fun assemblage to make and will be posting several more box assemblages over the coming weeks.
Thanks and good to be back |

Glad to have you back so we can see some more of your great work. Your Dark Angel is wonderful, very atmospheric.
I've started collecting smallish old boxes lately, I have some exciting visions of assemblages myself. I did some googling too and found Joseph Cornell, WOW, I didn't even know he existed, absolutely love his work.
Can't wait to see some more of your work. |
