Hello everyone,

I need to do some paintings for my first solo shows outside Australia. They will be on loose, un-stretched canvas so i can roll them up and take them on the plane with me.

To make the paint more flexible so it doesn't crack when rolled, is water good enough, or does a medium need to be added to the acrylic paint?

Thanks in advance!

Benjamin L.M.

High Benjamin, water is OK , if you are painting on canvas that is already primed don't put on anymore Gesso or if you are putting on your own gesso keep it thin as a thick goating of gesso will crack when rolled .

See this article for correct canvas rolling :- http://www.goldenpaints.com/justpaint/jp11article1.php

And on a different topic...if you are taking them on the plane with you, if it is at all possible take them onboard as carry on luggage.

I have my very own horror story of lost baggage containing an entire exhibition. The bags were lost for 6 weeks........

It's actually a fairly old story (well 4 years old) and it wasn't just that bag.....it was everything - clothes, toiletries etc for both my husband and myself. The clothes bag was found after 5 days but the paintings......well that's another story
