I would like to put some translucent colours on glass jars for a photo idea I have.
Does anyone know of a cheap way to add some colour to glass so that candle light will still shine through it ? |

| There is glass paint that you can buy from most craft type shops - probably places like Riot. I think it's fairly inexpensive. It is translucent so light still shows through. The only issue is the brush marks showing up. |

Random idea: what if you added some food die to gelatin, then swooshed it around the inside of the jar and let it set? I've never done this, so I suggest you experiment on something you don't care about, like an American.
Cheers

Other than glass paint there is tile medium that paints on glass which allows you to paint any acrylic paint on it.
I have about a litre of this stuff and some translucent colours... Depending on the colour you wanted I would be happy to help!!
As for brush strokes, they are hard to get rid of, they dont look as bad if you criss cross your brush making it a pattern, instead of haphazard lines.... or you could roll it on with a roller, then you get little bubbles instead.....
Or... you could glue celophane onto the glass... not durable, but if it is to create a light effect, it might be worth a go! |

Spray some acrylic lacquer onto the glass.
Some colours are opaque and some are translucent.
You want the translucent ones of course. |

Brush strokes will not be a problem as they will be moving and blurred.
Filling them with liquid may possibly make the candles hard to light
many thanks for the help and suggestions. |

| If you siliconed batery operated candles to the bottom of the jar, then filled them it would work! |

| buy coloured bottles? I collected them for a while but don't think a candle would fit. |

If you cut the tops off they would...
I think wrapping celophane would be the cheapest option with the least likelihood of cuts and loss of income! |

Plan B
We were in ordering doors for the new house and they do leadlighting.
I had a talk and they are going to cut me some 100mm squares of glass of different colours that I can then glue together with silicon rubber.
Each panel of glass will be a different colour so as the object moves they should change as different colours become visible. |

That will be interesting but will take a bit of planning to ensure you don't get two filters cancelling each other out. That is I am assuming you will have light coming through them - yes? |
