Hi y'all *waves*
My name's Kat and I''m sorta new to the whole art world.
I've dabbled in a few mediums over the years but have only recently turned my attention to digital art/ oil painting. I also use pencils and acrylics.
I'm currently working doing book covers and some commission pieces but I'm really looking forward to learning from everyone  |

Hi Katy - what sort of book covers?
I'm doing a bit of publishing work at the moment - I find some covers design themselves and others have a troubled gestation process.... for instance, one publisher believes that since 'Twilight' sells so well, we should do a similar cover. Sure, but for a book about gardening?

Hi Grant
Mainly horror/ Twilight Zone type stuff but I'm still branching out.
I've done a YA fantasy cover recently and working on two books of anthology as well. There's also been some interest to see if I can break into sci-fi type stuff.
Basically, I'm up for anything

So how did you get into publishing book covers? So what type of medium do you use for your book cover art work? Both the digital and oil?

ummm... strangely, I fell into doing covers through writing. I had submitted a couple of stories to an e-zine and in passing, they mentioned needing artwork. At the time, I had been playing around with digital, giggled and sent it off to them. They said thanks and do I have any more
It all depends on the project. I've done two digital art covers and I'm currently working on an oil for another. I try and do a sketch first, send it off and if we're all in accord, go with what would sell the book better.
