Hi my name is Marie  , I live in Maitland (Newcastle) NSW. I have been painting in oils since 2005 and attending a small art group one day a week with other local artists. I have wanted to join an art forum for quite some time as I am primarily self taught and would like to learn more from others. I have my first exhibition in August this year on the Central Coast. I am slowly but surely extending my style and types of paintings. I have almost completed my first portrait and started on an abstract piece. The rest have been mainly for other people, so at this point I have not yet found my true interest or particular style.

Hi Belle,
Thnkyou, Im looking forward to spending more time on here, so far I have spent a couple of hours on here already just navigating through, looking at the huge aray of subjects and learning how to use it (Thank goodness my husband is in IT)
I find that thus far my paintings are a little flat, the train the only one to have a landscape of some sort and a little depth... I really lack creativity and i guess I'm looking to find that more so than anything.
Im really looking forward to getting to know yourself and other artists |

You do not lack creativity so don't label yourself.
Like many self taught artists you are copying pictures which will usually make your work look flat.
Your tree branches and portrait are using a good range of tones.
If you are concerned about it, you could look at some exercises involving aerial perspective and tonal values. |

Hi Pearl,
Thankyou  , I guess this is one of the reasons i have joined the forum. Im just about to start a portraiture (5 dogs) so that should be quite intersting. 
You have some very beautiful pieces on your website! It will be great to get some feedback when I start.
