Nude awakening
January 6, 2010
A nervous Louise Schwartzkoff becomes a life model for a day in the name of art.
When my high school art teacher tried to explain the difference between nudity and nakedness, I was too busy giggling at the statue of David's rude bits to pay much attention.
A nude, she said, stoically ignoring the smirks, was an object, much like a bowl of fruit. Nakedness was something entirely different and had no place in a classroom full of snorting teenagers.
About 10 years later, standing on a plinth wearing nothing but a necklace and a pair of earrings, I am hoping fervently she was right. There is an artist scribbling with a stick of charcoal in front of me so, according to Mrs Burt's definition, I am nude, not naked. Nevertheless, two minutes into the session, I am blushing as no fruit bowl ever could.

| I took a class of Yr 11 students to their first Life Drawing class. I told them, "You will only be embarrassed for 12 minutes" jokingly. During the session one delightful young man came to me triumphantly and said. "You were right, Miss Fabian, it only took 12 minutes!" LOL. |
