By investigating the artist Richard Diebenkorn, an American Abstract Expressionist of the 20th century, I had to us his style of working with charcoal and paint (acrylic) on paper. He uses alot of geometric shapes, lines and angles, with blocks of colour and areas of transparent glazes.

I started off with a drawing outline of an image, started to block in colour with glazes, than add some opaque areas than reworked with charcoal and so on.

Here are two works I did (still very representational compared to his works as thats just who I am)

Aussie Backyard

Interior Still Life -Sink and Chair

I found this process to be really fun and something totally different. I would use this technique again for experimenting and just to play and relax.

Comments are welcome.

Hi Chrissy I like both these works , it is good to have fun when you paint sometimes. I like what can be achieved with charcoal and Paint on paper.
