There seem to be some pretty major paintings on ebay recently - especially aboriginal artworks. At the moment, there is a major Clifford Possum and a Rover Thomas, and an Emily Kngwarreye - all by different sellers. And unlike most aboriginal artworks on ebay, these have excellent provenance.
It would be interesting to see if these items sell. With the major auction houses pocketting 35% of sale price through buyer and seller commissions, ebay would seem to be a much more efficient way to sell - provided, of course, people are prepared to take a punt sight unseen! |

| An Hermes handbag purchased from Harvey Nicks is a totally different thing to one purchased in Bali or the grand bazaar in Istanbul... |

Serious collectors view Ebay with suspicion and therefore its not really a place that high priced artworks sell well on. Several fakes have been sold via Ebay.
Im involved with www.dacou.com.au and we dont sell artworks on Ebay for that and other reasons.
Aboriginal art tends to get better prices etc through dedicated exhibitions. |
