I really indulged myself on this one, purely a surfing piece, which I always really enjoy.

This is Dan Ross in full flight at the 2009 Margaret River Drug Aware Pro, on Friday 3rd. The swell picked up to a solid 10', and most competitors were riding 6' 4" or 6"6" boards, way too small for the conditions. Dan took out a 7' board, and ended up getting the highest heat score of the day. He went on to win the contest.

I work at the comp every year as the signage manager, and was lucky enough to get this shot of Dan as he charged some big surf.

Oil on canvas, 75cm x 150cm or 30" x 60"

Very well balanced - beautiful colour, so dynamic. Like a sin. Idulgence, did you say?
Wonderful.

That's a real good one Marty.
I saw this comp on telly the other day and the surf was very good.
Margarets is a big peak by the looks of it and it can handle some size as well.
It's good to see comps run in quality waves like that.
Great painting, I can't fault it. Very Happy

Hi, Stefan, thanks very much.

Hi, Jo, many thanks.

Hi, Kim, thanks to you too!

Thanks, Daniel. Margaret River is known as a Prime Comp. There's only a couple of other places with that designation, and it's in recognition of consistent, quality waves for competition. It's a big peak, can handle huge size. The left or right is better depending on swell and wind direction, but often both can be firing. The judges hate it, as the break is a long way out, and sometimes there can be two, three or even four surfers up at once!
