Maybe it's my Catholic upbringing or the half a dozen Buddhist temples I visited recently on holiday in Japan, but I don't really agree that Greed is good.
Greed propells progress, if by progress you mean War, Murder, theft, infadelity etc, Greed has led to genocide, the extinction of species and the rape of the planet all in the name of a full belly and a quick buck. |

I dont think greed is bred into us from birth, it is something some of us have been conditioned to do. My children all share happily, with anyone.
I dont think we are born programmed to take more than we need, aquire more than others, eat more than needed etc... it is something we do as adults.
The definition on the web for greed was...
excessive desire to acquire or possess more (especially more material wealth) than one needs or deserves....
AndyE... I envy your holiday!!! (its my sin for the day!! Seeing as there is no chocolate in the house! ) |

Have you ever seen a baby sucking on a mothers nipple?
That is the kind of greed I am talking about. |

Well, in that case, you're in the right place - why look elsewhere?
We've just witnessed the first collaboration facilitated by this site (I know Jo disagrees, but he just wants to be nice to everyone) and there should be more coming. Not to mention the wealth of information so generously offered by members on this site. Happy sucking! |

hmm some great things in here, the consumerism etc... elitist bits, keeping it excusif etc... BUT, when and or if... the average punter decides to look at art and does a google search HOLY CODSWALLOP BATMAN!!!! a heap of Artists show up, some great some BAD and some indifferent... so how do they make the decision about which one... there are a squillion of them.
Are they taught at school how to pick an artist for investment? Do gallery's teach them?? do artists do it?
So how does the average punter that WANTS to invest or collect find out what is kosher... ok... alright...
They could go to www.artstuff.net.au and get some clues |

Now that is a site in the right direction.
Is it yours Steve?
How about going into a few more nitty gritty's-
like-
-Is there a place where we can get catalogues printed-where do the majority of established artists get them printed. Somewhere where they have a full knowledge of what is required to appeal to galleries, consumers etc. I know there are plenty of printers on the web, but surely there are some that have been singled out who have layout templates that make it EAsy and quick.
2- where do we find the art writers and reviewers who can write our media releases and catalogue introductions in the right way to be uber proffessional?
3- Whaee is there a list of contacts that we can access, on people to approach to give these media releases to? Are there such people?
4- Give all the loyal members on this forum interviews and a wrap to get our names out there. Great to keep members interested in the forum.
You can start with me. I can be pretty interesting if I want to be.
5- make the in depth information only accessable to members so that it is not available to the general blog blasters.
BRAG BRAG
I have just spent a week working on a presentation for the Emily Carr university of Art and Design in Canada, where no less then 3 of my works were used as an example of a particular art form. Surely that is a point of interest? But how do i get it out there? On my blog that only a handfull of interested people will read?
See, we all do amazing things, but if you are like me, lacking in time, and lacking in full knowledge of this"art' world, it can be realy daunting to find a place to start.
Loyalty to a forum should create advantages, through help.
It is fine to be part of a forum where there can be social interaction and networking, but if you live miles from nowhere, or just in a totally different state, in the end it doesn't benefit your art.
Go Jo-- that is exactly what we need. How powerful would this forum be if there was a network of these self managed, member only gallerys set up right around the country. |

Yes it's mine...
lack of time...
1. You have stuff to sell, sell some at a profit and hire someone to do the other stuff for you.
2. The more you can get the other stuff done the more you will be able to take action to get things selling more. more profit more action...
simple huh... yeah I wish... |

I'm Sorry if I got a bit carried away earlier, I was exaggerating to prove a point. I just think it's important not to confuse greed with ambition. I don't really think you were promoting greed anyway given you started the thread talking about working together and sharing for a greater good etc.
Moralistic rants are the first step towards hypocrisy anyway. As for me, I always preffered Sloth to Greed.
appologies also for taking this detour off topic.
