These are very good. Are they charcoal or conte crayon?
I like the soft look they have. The lack of many construction lines makes me think that you are a very capable and confident drawer from life.
It's so hard.
I was always exhuasted after my life drawing class.
I know that the size of the hands have been mentioned to you before, so I wont mention them here. |

Thanks devilbiss. As far as I can remember, these are old sketches, they were made with general's compressed charcoal. They are very smooth, but even better the paper was blank newspaper, it allowed for easy erasing. I have had trouble finding these materials lately.
No, I don't use construction lines, I never learnt to use them. That's probably the reason for me making hands too small. |

Hi Panza, Tha actual mark making is great and so too the way you appear to capture and convey something of the sitters character - for example the fragililty of the woman in the top image and the solidity of the male at the bottom.
I especially like the head of the man in the bottom piece.
But I have to agree with you the proportions are out of whack and detract from the images a bit.
I don't use construction lines either but I do measure out as I am drawing (and before I put the head and feet in to make sure I don't run out of paper before I have the image in). I measure using continual checking as I go with a thumb against a paint brush handle or pencil - putting the top of the handle at the top of the area I am trying to measure and my thumb at the bottom of it. using a fully extened arm. I also compare, section to section using the same method and angles too. Just a bit of work on the propotions and your drawing would be even more impressive. |

| Thanks amandav, I'll definitely try that or I'll go back to basics and use construction lines. Your idea sounds better though, it uses less effort to achieve the same results. |

| Thanks Clarityx... it's been a while since I have drawn like this. I hope I haven't lost my touch. |
