I would like to know who are our mods for this fine art forum and where are you....yes grant I know your one, but to by honest I can't recall any others and apart from brad.

I ask because if we have any problems, we are always boom-barding grant.

So please introduce yourselves as mods

P.S. Sorry if I have offended other active mods on here, but I don't think it has the description on the side left profile panel when you post saying you are a mods.

If the other forums don't get spam then the spamers probably don't think that it's worth the effort.
Grant know more about the reasons for this than I do.
Anyway...My name is Daniel and I am a moderator.
You are all in very safe sane hands.
And now I need some breakfast.

Sane??? I know Daniel isn't an Complete Raving Lunatic because I never see him at the meetings...

I don't know why we get so much spam - a colleague of mine who knows way, way more about such things than I do says this Forum has a very high Google ranking, which makes it a high profile target. We actually get a LOT more spammer registrations (about 100 per day) than we get actual spam posts.

It is likely that the Forum will need to upgrade the PHPBB software at some point, and add some more anti-spam modules to it. I, for one, don't have the knowledge (or access) to do this, so it would be up to Brad or his web guy to implement.

Cheers

Grant

I should add that there is nothing miraculous about being a Mod - you just have to ask Brad if you can become one. Knowledge of art is NOT a prerequisite (as I have amply demonstrated), and you don't have to commit to doing it 24/7.

In some Forums, the Mods behave a bit like teachers in a school playground - breaking up fights and confiscating banned toys. On this Forum, fights hardly ever break out - it;s a great credit to the members that, whilst we frequently disagree, we tend to respect other's opinions. (at least in the postings....) So most of the time we just delete the Spam.

Chrissy - re your original point, I changed my Avatar once to have a big hat with MODERATOR on it as it struck me as funny - mainly because we don't have any real authority. I changed it a day or so later, as in the cold, clear (sober) light of day it struck me as pretentious.

Cheers

*hands up waving* Very Happy

I haven't been aroudn as much as normal lately as I am getting married soon and trying to set up a new home/office. I will be back in action soonish though.

I'm happy to assign more Mods, generally if you are nice and fair in nature and have a history in the forum I'm happy to let you share the reins.

Re Spam, its an annoying problem that we largely combat manually, implementing various automated methods of spam prevention will result in less new people finding and/or nreading the forum and ofcourse joining the forum. That said, if its getting intolarable and everyone demands it I will put them in place.

Congratulations, and welcome back.

I know you said not to throw any wild parties while you were away, but it was only a little one and I promise we'll clean it up...

Cheers
