I'm a young female artist's model in Sydney looking for experience and help with how to get started. I'm willing to work for less until I get experience. If anyone's interested please email or pm me. My physical description I would say is brown hair, grey-blue eyes, olive skin, tall, slim but curvy. Does anyone know how I get started?
p.s. Im new so sorry if i posted in the wrong place! |

Hi i am new on this site. i started working with a photographer in brisbane. He pays so little its virtually for free. I have heard that it is generally seen that the model does not need to be paid.
Models do have rights. It is even possible for models to get royalties. I have looked into it and although there is no legislature for it at present, it is certainly possible to draw an artists model royalties contract. What do you think?
A lot of photographers think that they own the image. Thats not true! They own the photograph- not the image. The image is me or you. We have a right to protect our image. Depending of course on the degree of manipulation and recognisability of our person.
I have heard the only way to be paid decently $45.00 per hour is to go to art colleges and universities. It is a shame that artists refuse to pay us what we are worth. Many artists cannot find life models. I'm guesssing this is because people know they will not be paid the going rate. So actually, artists are ripping each other off!! |

Sorry to tread on some toes, but I have to disagree on a few points.
Regarding painting - I do not know what artists pay models, but at $45 per hour for a sitting of say 4+ hours that would break the bank for most artists - sorry, but that is reality. Also many models are taking cash and not paying tax. That is a high rate of pay, even considering travel time either way.
Photo sessions are a bit different possibly because they may be a bit quicker, and may yield more return to the photographer than a painting may do/.
As far as royalties - the few models I have worked with I have had a great relationship with them, but it was never seen that they would own any form of intellectual property in the painting at the end of the process. They are the subject matter only.
Again, the photographic world may be different, but that may be something that the model needs to discuss with the photographer before the assignment.
Remember, the photographer applies a lot of knowledge and skill (ususlly) in getting the structure of the picture and lighting etc just right so there is a lot of intellectual property that they bring to a picture.
If one took your approach then maybe tourists need to pay royalties to photograph buildings and structures and beaches and all of our other wonders. |

Sorry - welcome to the forum
Don't undercut price because you are new - there are some who may be a bit cheap and try to cheat you.
I have been sent a contact for an agency that she recommends in Sydney who may be able to give some guidance.
Good luck |

Hi,
I am a photographer / digital artist who needs the services of models for comissioned pieces. I am based in Sydney. If you would be interested I could probably get you some paid work either posing for photographs or sitting as a life drawing model. If you would like to know more send me an email to info@fertileminds.net.au and perhaps we could work together. Look forward to chatting soon,
