Hey all, I thought I'd share with you the works I've been doing over the past few weeks in preparation for a large event I'm working on near the end of the year with one of my fellow Untamed Artist, Patrick Hedges.
Below are my first portrayals of the Chimpanzees of West Africa, our closest relatives in the animal kingdom and a species in dire need of protection from various threats such as the bushmeat trade, illegal pet trade and the destruction of habitat.
Who Will Save Me?
Pondering his fate
Escaping the fires
There will be more to come shortly. Thanks for looking! |

| Thanks Heidi, I feel like I'm making huge improvements with each piece lately. I looked back at one of the pieces I did for the zoo project earlier in the year and couldn't believe the difference in realism, detail, values and tones in that short space of time. It's nice to look back and see such vast improvements |

| Leigh, I LOVE your work, i have been following your post since i discovered this site, you certainly are inspirational. Have you only worked with soft pastel? I am currently doing classes with hard pastel, mainly Fab Cast & conte, do you think you get a better result with soft pastels or is it just preference. Do you still run classes over email/web? Cheers Shez |

Here's a couple more for the collection. We've been given the green light from Monarto Zoo to hold our exhibition on their grounds from October this year so there will be plenty more to join the finished works. Tacugama Sanctuary, who we've been inspired by, has posted a blog about us here.

| I've been away for a little while but I've achieved quite a bit in the interim. To check out all the works for this series you can now check out artforchimps.com where I've set up a showcase of these works and given a bit of info regarding the project I'm working on. |

Hi, I am by no means an expert, but not only have you nailed your subject to perfection, but I have to say you are very talented in creating mood and enhancing your subject with just the right backgrounds. Once I got past the accuracey and realism of your work, it was the backgrounds that really complimented your pieces. You do draw with wonderful emotion. Lovely! |
