THE SPAM PROBLEM:
Each day you are told via email to buy ####, Buy Prescription drugs, Increase your penis size and to confirm your new Home Morgage. Its annoying, wastes time and costs ISP's millions of $$ in bandwidth.

HOW YOUR EMAIL GETS ON A SPAM LIST: (the main reason)
By far, far, far the biggest cuase of getting on spammers list is by placing your email address online! Don't place your email address online, either as a email link or as plain text, and dont let others do this to you either. If websites do it... tell them not to!

THE ACCEPTION:
If the website requires a user needs to log in before they can seeing your email, this is okay.

TO EXPLAIN MORE:
Just like a search engine's "spider", "indexing agent" or "crawler" programmers have devised similar software which do nothing but 24/7 visit link after link picking up email addresses of the internet. This software detects the email as text or the email as a link.

THE ALTERNATIVE:
Use, an online submission form to allow people to email you. OR, place your email address in an image. DONT place your email address online as a link or text.

YOU CAN TAKE ACTION:
There are several art websites and publishers that openly place art businesses email addresses online, these websites, may be unaware, but they are actually helping the problem and help you to recieve more and more spam. Email these websites and demand they not to print your email address online.

Hope this helps!

Great advice Brad.

My pet Peeve with respect to email addresses is when people think they are somehow doing me a favour by sending me a joke or funny picture, and CC it to 50 other people.

This drives me NUTS.

And usually is quickly followed by my sending an email back to them asking them (nicely) never to do that again.

If something's THAT good that you think I simply MUST see it, fine, send it to me, but either take the time to send it individually, or learn to BCC. Other than that, NOTHING is important enough to send my email address across the world.

Have you ever wondered how you email address is found by spammer?

Robots are used to search the internet looking for email addresses. Once an address is found it is send back to the spam list which is then used to send you junk mail. By using the below code on your webpage, your email address is hidden and can't be found by robots.

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
var name = "yourname";
var domain = "hotmail.com";
document.write('<a href=\"mailto:' + name + '@' + domain + '\">');
document.write(name + '@' + domain + '</a>');
// -->
</script>

just change it to suit

or for a non script, try using this

<a href="mailto:your & # 6 4 ; address.com">Email Me</a>

without the spaces, Ive had to add the spaces, because this site changes the code

& # 6 4 ; is actually code for the @

I work on webpages every day, its my job and my customers have never had a problem with spam to this very day

You know it's odd but I'm not getting much spam. I have my email(s) plasted all over the internet and I'm on yahoo groups as well. Only about 2% of my email is spam, and I have a delete button Smile

Don't know why I'm not getting spam. Just lucky I guess Smile

Just another little tip guys....
You should like this one..

Do you remember those email virus or trojan nasties that used to attach themselves to your email address list, eg: family and friends email addresses, and then send to everyone in that list, without you knowing?
Well this is how you stop it...
And btw, it does work..

Create a new friend in your address list called, 'aaaa1111', for eg.
Now, create a new email address for him/her named, 'aaaa@aaaa1111.com', or something like that.
NOTE: Both have to begin with a number of a's.
OK, got that...?

What this will do is, when these virus or trojan nasties attach themselves to your address book list, and try and send themselves, the virus or trojan will start at the first one. That will be your new friend.....
If the first one isn't real, then it will come back to your inbox as being not sent... FAILED TO SEND MAIL
Then you know you have had a virus or trojan try and send itself to everyone in your address book.

Don't worry though, if it can't get past the first email address in you list, then it won't send to any others in your list.
What next.... Do a complete scan of your computer.....

NOTE also: Most email providers have a system to stop this sort of thing, but hey, it can't hurt.....
Hopefully this helps someone one day, as it did me.
Goodluck. Smile

I decided never to place my main email address on the web. Instead I made a "slave" account to post. The idea was that it was easily replaceable if it got clogged with spam. Wouldn't you know it! My slave address has never had spam and my main one is on someones list and I get rubbish every day on it. Can't win. I refer all spam to SpamMatters.

Thank you. This is a really good solution! I find that I just get annoyed if I try to email them and I get an officious message from a third party to let me in.

One question. A lot of my email links are under graphics and not straight code on the page. I use Dreamweaver and may, for instance, have an email address within an area that I overlay on the image. Do I just change the source code that relates to the area to make it work as you suggest?

I get my emails sent through my gmail account (which wipes out 99pct) redirected to my uni account (which I use Mozilla to access) and never get any spam, ever. It's wonderful.
