Here are Four Paintings I am doing, which are really two, since once is a Triptych.

1. "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" - Triptych in Oils on Stretched Canvas
http://www.dokimon.net.au/art/WIP.html

2. "The Outing" - Oils on Canvas Board, 28 x 22"
http://www.dokimon.net.au/art/WIP-2.html

An earlier WIP that I think I have finished now:

Should be fixed now - think the posting program automatically changed them to picture links or something.

I couldn't see the last one, but love how you have shown your work in progress techniques on the first two. I really like the Outing, the people are so lifelike. I really like that stripey bag - you see them all the time, but never in a painting before. It really makes the scene look real. I'm left wondering what they are queuing up for. Peal Jam concert maybe? LOL.

BTW - what is Spike oil?

If you can pick up any mistakes in my technique feel free to critique - I'm still very much an amateur.

I think more like plum jam probably!

Yeah it's a great photo and I've stuck fairly literally to it with only minor changes - when I get round to getting it enlarged I intend to exhibit the photo as well.

It was a group of old codgers probably from a nursing home I think, all sitting along the wall in the winter sun at Clarendon House, a historic estate near Launceston. The lady with her back to the camera appeared to be their 'minder'. The building itself is quirky, with its strange door to nowhere and stepped roof. I guess it's a barn, but then it has a chimney - why would you have a chimney in a barn?

It was just one of those precious life cameos you come across and I happened to have the camera out at the right time. Yes, I like the stripey bag too - it is one of those ubiquitous little recognisable icons of our consumer age isn't it? It and the empty blue chair are my favourite parts of the scene - with its occupant off for a wander.

Oil of Spike Lavender. A diluent and solvent. Can be used to thin and extend paint in an underpainting or early layers of a painting as you would with turps but keeps the oil open a little longer (ie dries slower) and smells a heck of a lot better. Also can be used in glaze mixes, but sparingly as too much eats into the previous layer - for that reason it can be useful in removing unwanted mistakes. It's a more powerful solvent than turps. Major drawback - costs about $25 for 60ml! I use it from an eyedropper or mix it with turps.

That's strange - I can't see the last one now either - hmm...where'd it go?

Ahh - forgot to put the html on the end - try http://www.dokimon.net.au/art/EarlyBirds.html

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

The first one is probably not typical actually - I don't usually use such bright primary-loaded colours. I'm afraid it looks a little garish and unreal - but then the grass here really is that green and the sky really is that blue!

I've just added a couple more man-ferns (that's tree ferns to you mainlanders) in the bottom left foreground of the left panel. Hoping to have it finished next week for an exhibition.

Thanks, I'm fairly happy with it now. It's at the framers so will be ready for the North East Arts and Crafts Exhibition in June.

Pages have been updated with today's additions to panel one.

I like the colours in the last one and the harsh values between the shadows and light. It really conveys the atmosphere of early morning by the docks.
