I started this one yesterday. It's a very simple composition with few colours and is almost finished apart from letting it dry and doing some glazes perhaps.
Colours used: Fragonard Zinc White; Blockx Cassell Earth & Mars Violet; AS Tasman Blue; Rowney Georgian Monestial Blue; OH Violet Grey & Blue Grey.
Above: "Bissett's Barn, God's Sky" 14"x10" (36x25cm) Oils on canvas board.
Below: Detail sections of painting:
I drove past this barn today and it is now a roof sitting on the ground - must have blown down in last week's windstorm! |

Hi Greg - that's looking really nice. Fantastic feeling of of space you've got there. And the sky's got some really nice movement happening.
Cheers

Thanks for stopping by to look Grant. Yes we have some amazing big skies here, and I wanted to communicate that vastness of space by showing nothing but the tree and the barn and the sky. I cheated with this one - it's a sky from another photo overlooking Bass Strait, though similar to the real sky in the photo of the barn.
I've added a few more cloud highlights and yellowed the sky on the horizon. The trick with this one will be not fiddling or adding too much. I need to keep it simple and stark for it to work. Knowing when you're finished is the hard thing. |
