My first piece for the year, and something quite different from my usual work.

I've been travelling around Tassie, and I've been super busy since I returned, so haven't been on the forums much at all.

This is Botanical Creek near the town of Strahan on the West Coast of Tasmania. It gets 3m of rain, has amazing thick rainforest and the rivers and creeks are all full of tannin, which stains the water red in sunlight.

On canvas, 90cm x 160cm.

Love it, everything about it. It looks simple, yet so full and detailed. It's bright and clear with great colours. Yep, i love it alright :)

Very nice - clearly not a photo - so interesting - I'd love to see it in real life - I'm sure the photo here does little justice to this piece - congratulations, Marty. And yes, I would love to have it on my newly freed wall, but I'm sure you'll sell it very quick. Well done.

Hi, Wendy, thanks very much.

Hi, Pearl, many thanks!

Hi, Heidi, thanks for commenting.

Hi, Stefan, thanks, and yes, this is a tiny pic of what is a large piece, so the real impact is lost, but you get the idea.

Hi Marty, great painting, as always....

Can I ask you a question?...
Why do you always paints such large canvases?
I love painting large, but about one in every 4 paintings would be large canvas for me...

Just got me intrigued... Cheers

Hi, Dave, thanks. As to your question, I like painting large, but my galleries prefer big pieces. They have even asked if I can paint even larger pieces, but it gets logistically difficult for transport. At the moment I can transport these sizes to my Margaret River Gallery, but larger would require a transport company, and that gets expensive. I already send work to Melbourne, and the larger the pieces, the higher the cost. The largest I have sold in Margaret River was 2.4m x 1.5m.

Great work Marty. The colours and composition make it a really interesting peice.
As for painting large works, I made myself a really large stretcher frame then once the painting is done I just cut the canvas off neatly around the edges and then roll the painting and put it in a tube then post the work and have it stretched at the other end.

Then stretch another canvas and do it all over again.
