Quenching Water's of Wirreanda Creek
Approx 47.5cm x 68cm
Pastel on Terra Cotta Colourfix Paper

(The blue is not quite right in this image but the best I could get at this time)

Gosh it has been so long since I have posted here.
I don’t know how many times I have traveled near this spot and never appreciated what is really there. This is permanent water fed by a spring. The surrounding area doesn’t have much in the way of tall trees but there is plenty of salt bush heading off into the distance. I always find the floating algae interesting, especially when it is aging, because of the varied colours and textures that it becomes.

A closeup of that unusual colour red area popping out.

Thanks for taking the time to look. Smile

Talented or skilled, what's the difference?

What's the point of your question Steve?

I would say she is skilled (actually I hate the word talented) talent seems to imply being clever, smart etc.... Skilled or a level of ability (still skill I guess) is about the effort put in to get to this point.

We had kids in Yr 11 & 12 who were told over and over (by parents, family and friends) they were talented, they would go so far and stop, worried they might not get called talented... (ego is a bummer)

then there were those we call the plodders, they turn up do what they can, they put in the effort and get results for their efforts.

I guess those with talent may have some predisposition for their creative endeavours and develop these skills early, it stands out so they get praised, the plodders get praised for their efforts not their "talent".

Did that make sense?

As they say in karate circles, a black belt is just a white belt that kept on with the training.

Some poeple have a natural talent but have to work hard to refine it. Applies to most people in this forum I would guess.
I think everyone has talent at something.
My mate at school could flick peanuts in the air and catch them in his mouth every time. How I envied him!
My wife can unroll a length of cling wrap, drop it over a bowl of salad, flick it with her finger. Tight as a drum. What a talent! When I try it all I get is string.

So, you are talented at string wrap. Or skilled?

Back to the topic, I believe Susan's work shows both talent and skill - it would fit quite nicely on my wall.

When it comes to making string from cling wrap I believe I have a natural talent. I have never had to put any effort at all into learning how to do it so do not consider it a skill.

Hallo,Susan!
I'm so impressed of your work! I can see that you understand the colours right (right for me, I wish to achieve such result one day). I also like composition and light. I believe you've got great experience in art but such kind of work it's always like keeping a secret.
